As you may know, California will be voting on the legalization of marijuana in November. The reaction to the whole idea is interesting...

Quote:
After a marathon of public comments and debate, Oakland city council members voted Tuesday in favor of an unprecedented plan to start industrial-scale medical marijuana growing facilities in the city.

If adopted in a final vote next week, the ordinance would grant permits to four giant medical pot production facilities in industrial areas in a bold bid to place Oakland at the heart of the marijuana economy.

“You want to be the Silicon Valley of cannabis?” asked entrepreneur Jeff Wilcox, who wants to build a 7.4-acre marijuana production complex producing 21,000 pounds of pot annually. “If Oakland wants to do this, you’ve got to start, because other people are going to.”

On the flip side, it's putting a lot of people's livelihoods in question.

Quote:
The ordinance could generate hundreds of jobs and millions in taxes, according to proponents. But opponents called it unfair to the cannabis growers who have traditionally supplied medical marijuana to consumers.

“For the past several weeks [growers] have been coming to me terrified, with tears in their eyes,” said Steve DeAngelo, executive director of Harborside Health Center, the largest dispensary in the world. “They are real people, decent people with families to support.”

I always thought the solution was for everyone to just drop a few seeds everywhere like police station lawns, roadside, in parks, etc. Trying to control a plant makes little sense.

The home growers in fear of their customers growing..I mean going elsewhere shouldn't worry. Visit each customer and discuss the importance of their continuing to do what they've been doing for years. They could have specials. Twofers on random days of the month.

I feel their pain..I have NO weed. My Austin contact passed away..bless his bones. The odds of weed being legalized in Texas in my lifetime are enormous. Perhaps we could drive to california. I have glaucoma and can get a letter from my doctor stating so. People in the Autumn of their years being denied an evening smoke on the patio with their chums and lots of Canada Dry! That's criminal! California will gain a gigantic pile of 100 dollar bills as high as Mount Everest once this is passed.

Those of you in California, please help me think of ways to get the herb from there to here and everywhere. Crookedman lives between me and the coast.. I could drop his off on the way home..assuming he smokes and someone on the other end is willing.

This is Monumental!!! Thanks for the thread, Flicka. A red thread running through a huge bud that smells like a christmas tree!

The "pot plant" is very easy to grow, and I can see how big business would want to protect the market. So a license to grow over a certain limit is reasonable, but I do not see in the article how the processing, packaging of the product will be overseen or regulated. Is there to be a quota system, much like our milk marketing board etc. ? Are those under the baseline allowed to sell unregulated. Very interesting article.

I'd be glad to help anyone planning a planting project! Not physically, but in another equally important way. Stick me on a tall chair in the middle of the field. I'll require a person to roll for me and hand 'em up and someone to provide munchies.

In turn, I'll pontificate on a lifetime of adventure, and a sound machine to play music from various eras during which I was music director..so I will have a feel for what my pickers want. Why, come sundown and the sky is a wide splash of blue, red and orange, pickers will be given mats to lay on, munchies to eat, Big Boys to smoke while enjoy "Tunes TIl Twilight!"

I would never use it but what is the difference between it and all the alcohol flowing across our country?

It is far less harmful than booze for one thing. You..oh, Lord, I'd love to get you stoned, Paul and have a Come To Jesus Talk. Play some tunes. You're in Oregon..it's got to be around. It makes us "Mature" folks Golden Years sooo much more enjoyable. I tell you this as one codger to another:" Weed will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no weed." The Furry Freak Brothers

Johnny, doesn't Texas have some horrendous laws about growing and possessing? Like extensive prison terms
for having small amounts? I doubt I'd need to hit CA to find it. After all, Phoenix is the crime capital of the world as the news tells it. I've got a buddy in ElPaso. Maybe he could just grab some as it goes buy.
